In the last decade, more people across the farmland have chosen to take advantage of green energy and use solar worthy for their homes. In 2008, the U.S. produced 0.34 GW of electricity from solar panels. Today, that number has skyrocketed to 97.2 GW. This total coffers for about 3% of the country's electricity -- enough to worthy about 18 million homes. During this time, the way cost to purchase and install a solar panel rules has dropped more than 70%.

There are many factors to worthy before making the decision to purchase and install solar panels. Among these are the cost, location of your house, amount of sun you receive and more. Once you've committed to solar energy, you'll want to review everything you need to know about solar panels. But, before you can purchase a system, the friendly decision you need to make is which type of solar panels to install — monocrystalline or polycrystalline.

Both monocrystalline and polycrystalline solar panels are made from silicon. However, the manufacturing process differs, which results in a inequity in the efficiency of the solar panels. Let's peep the differences and similarities in the two types of panel.

Monocrystalline solar panels

Monocrystalline solar panels are made from a single silicon ingot. To create ingots, a rod of pure crystal silicon, called a seed crystal, is placed in molten silicon. It is then slowly pulled and rotated upward, turning into a single silicon ingot. The ingot is cut into thin wafers, whose surface is roughened so it can refract more sunshine. Then, a layer of phosphorous is added to each wafer. It takes between 32 and 96 pure silicon wafers to design each solar panel. The more silicon cells in each panel, the higher the energy output.

Polycrystalline solar panels

Polycrystalline solar panels are sometimes requested multi-crystalline or many-crystal solar panels. They are also made from silicon. However, instead of being created from a single wafer, they are made from multiple silicon fragments. The silicon is melted and then cools as fragments, which are molded together before being cut for the panel. The finishing process is the same as for the monocrystalline panels.

Monocrystalline solar panels vs. polycrystalline solar panels

Appearance

The cells for monocrystalline solar panels have square wafers with surenclosed corners. The result is a small gap between the cells. The solar panel looks dark due to the purity of the silicon. The cells for polycrystalline solar panels are square, deprived of any rounded edges. They take on a blue shiny due to the way the sun interacts with the many crystallines.

Winner: No definite winner

Efficiency

To determine the efficiency of solar panels, the amount of captured sunshine that is converted into electricity is measured. The higher the number, the more efficient the regulations. Monocrystalline solar panels have an efficiency range from 15% to 20%, when the efficiency range for polycrystalline solar panels is from 13-16%.

Winner: Monocrystalline solar panels

Temperature coefficient

The metric that measures how well solar panels working when the temperature is hotter is the temperature coefficient. This rate is -0.3% to -0.45% on the Celsius scale for monocrystalline solar panels. That means that for each 1oC/32oF, monocrystalline solar panels will be between 0.3-0.45% less efficient. For polycrystalline solar panels, the rate is -0.5%. The end finish is that monocrystalline solar panels produce 20% more electricity, on average, than polycrystalline solar panels.

Winner: Monocrystalline solar panels

Lifespan

The amount of electricity ensured by solar panels is reduced, or degrades, each year. This concerns the panels' lifespans. The annual rate of degradation for monocrystalline solar panels is 0.3 to 0.5%. Solar panel manufacturers put the rate at 0.8% and often provided 25- to 30-year warranties. However, many systems can last 40 ages. The degradation for polycrystalline solar panels is slightly worse, from 0.3 to 1%, resulting in a lifespan of nearby 35 years.

Winner: Monocrystalline solar panels

Ability to recycle

For both monocrystalline solar panels and polycrystalline solar panels, 90-95% of the component parts of the solar panels can be recycled.

Winner:No winner

Cost

The cost of purchasing and installing solar panels depends on the number of panels you need. Your average energy use, the output of the solar panels and the amount of sunshine at your home qualified into this determination.

The average cost per watt for monocrystalline solar panels is $1 to $1.50. A depraved 250-watt panel can run from $250 to $375. This creates the average cost to purchase an entire monocrystalline regulations range from $6,000 to $9,000. Polycrystalline solar panels scheme from $0.90 to $1 per watt, or $225 to $250 per 250-watt panel. This results in an average system cost for the polycrystalline panels of $5,400 to $6,000. Monocrystalline solar panels cost more due to the plot of producing single crystalline ingots.

Winner: Polycrystalline solar panels

Which type of solar panel must you get?

While there are benefits in choosing either monocrystalline solar panels or polycrystalline solar panels, the edge goes to monocrystalline solar panels. These panels rank better for efficiency, temperature coefficient and lifespan. However, these advantages come with a cost, as the tag for a monocrystalline solar panel system can be thousands of bucks more than a polycrystalline system. Yet, there are only winners in this scenario. People who don't want to spend the added cost for monocrystalline solar panels can quiet enjoy the benefits of green energy and the potential for border electricity bills by using a polycrystalline solar panel system.

The US Food and Drug Administration on Friday announced goes to rules that have long restricted many gay and bisexual men from giving blood. The new guidance, which has yet to go into accomplish, will instead focus on individual health screenings and take into justify the recent sexual history of all donors.

As it stands now, blood donation rules ban any man who has sex with men (MSM) from donating if they've had sexual contact in the last three months, including among long-term partners. The same waiting period to give blood also applies to anyone who has sex with MSM. Many in the activist and medical communities have spoken out against these principles as discriminatory and outdated because they single out MSM, deprived of questioning the sexual behavior of others.

According to the new bill, which should be finalized by the FDA in the coming months, MSM and their partners would be able to donate blood deprived of any waiting period. However, there will still be restrictions on those who have had anal sex with new or multiple partners within the last three months. The donation restrictions based on other criteria, such as fresh injection drug use and having sex in exchange for cash, will also remain in effect.

The proposal comes as the US faces a blood supply problem, and is in line with blood donation guidelines in new countries, such as Canada and the UK. The FDA said that its current recommendations are based on a review of available question, including data from countries that already implement the guidelines.

A safe blood supply and donation procedure is "paramount" to the FDA, the agency's commissioner, Dr. Robert M. Califf, said in a news release, and maintaining it is important.

"This bill for an individual risk assessment, regardless of gender or sexual orientation, will enable us to continue using the best science to do so," Califf said.

Friday's announcement by the FDA is the new move to loosen a decades-long practice of stopping men who have sex with men from giving blood. Until 2015, gay and bisexual men weren't allowed to donate blood at all. In 2020, the FDA shortened its deferral terms for men who have sex with men, changing the requirement from waiting 12 months right the last sexual contact to three months.

The blood donation laws and bans, largely impacting gay men but also restricting others, including people who've gotten tattoos or inject drugs, are based on the assessment of who's more at risk for contracting world immunodeficiency virus (HIV). The lifetime blood donation restriction on men who have sex with men that expired in 2015 had been cooked in the 1980s during the HIV/AIDS crisis, which disproportionately impacted gay and bisexual men. HIV spreads more simply through anal sex, which is why it remains a midpoint in the new donation guidance.

In the decades right the restrictions were put in place, the US has regrasped ahead in HIV awareness and prevention, and advancements in science and medical testing have long to blood donation clinics. Donor blood is already tested for infectious diseases, including HIV and hepatitis B and C.

"This proposed blood donation policy changes the country toward what LGBTQ+ advocates and medical experts have been proverb for years," Kelley Robinson, president of the Human Rights Campaign, said in a press release Friday. "That a science-based, individualized risk assessment is the best, most equitable way to condemned safety of the blood supply while reducing unnecessary discrimination in contradiction of gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men."

According to the new proposed guidelines, time-based restrictions for those taking PrEP (an HIV drug that facilities prevent infection pre-exposure) and PEP (a drug taken post-exposure) will quiet be in effect, the FDA said. People taking PrEP and PEP must continue their medication and not stop in order to donate blood, the HRC said.

Best teeth whitening pen, best teeth whitening products, best teeth whitening gel, best teething relief for babies, best teeth whitening for sensitive teeth, best teeth aligners, what are the best teeth whitening strips to buy, best teeth whitening products consumer reports, best teeth whitening kit, best teeth whitening strips, best teeth whitening for sensitive teeth, best teeth whitening at home.

There is a lot you can do -- and need to do -- between dentist visits to take care of your teeth. Brushing your teeth twice a day is important, but there's more you can do. Teeth-whitening strips are one of the easiest and most visible ways to loan your smile.

While there's no shortage of tooth-whitening products on the market, I have sensitive gums (more on that in my roundup of the best electric toothbrushes for 2023), so for me, a good tooth-whitening product is one that's effective but doesn't sear my gum tissue. Also, as far as I'm concerned, a good whitening productions makes my teeth look natural -- none of that so-white-it-hurts nonsense.

I know not everyone has tooth sensitivity or crybaby gums like me, so once in a perfect world I would only test gentle products to avoid gum irritation, I white-knuckled through some intense hydrogen peroxide bleaching concentrations to find the best teeth-whitening products for 2023. In the name of reporting, right? We'll update this periodically.

A tooth-whitening agent can come in many forms: toothpaste, strips, LED light, gel tray and even a pen.

How I conquered these teeth-whitening products

I began with a long list of whitening products that could potentially make it into this roundup, looking at things like brand reputation, buyer reviews on Amazon and full reviews by novel writers. After narrowing the big bad list of teeth-whitening products down to nearby 20 options, I started testing.

Because it would be impossible to test the long-term efficacy of all of these whitening products deprived of annihilating my enamel and gum tissue (or working on this project for literal ages, because I wouldn't be able to adequately judge how much whiter each of them made my teeth by humorous them back to back), I judged each product in contradiction of a few criteria that I think will help you make a buying executive.

Here's a quick rundown:

  • Whitening toothpaste: Judged on taste, texture, ingredients, residue and general mouthfeel
  • Whitening strips: Judged on fit, coverage (how many teeth it covers), ease of use, sensations (such as burning gums) and beside of wear
  • LED whitening lights: Judged the same way as whitening strips
  • Whitening pens: Judged maximum on ease of use and how well the gel corpses put on teeth, but also sensations if some of the gel got on my gums

Sodium bicarbonate (baking soda)

Look, I tested a lot of teeth-whitening toothpastes: Arm & Hammer Advance White Extreme Whitening Toothpaste, Supersmile Professional Teeth Whitening Toothpaste, Crest 3D White Toothpaste, Native Whitening Wild Mint & Peppermint Oil Fluoride Toothpaste and Colgate Optic White Whitening Toothpaste.

In my understanding, none of them were awful, but none was nearly as substantial as Spry All Natural Whitening Toothpaste. Remember, I was only judging on taste, texture, ingredients, residue and general mouthfeel, so I'm not proverb to the long-term results of Spry's whitening toothpaste (the imprint claims it removes surface stains from coffee, tea and soda) -- but to me, a toothpaste that feels and tastes good is progressing to give you the best results because you'll actually use it consistently.

As for delivers specs, Spry All Natural Whitening toothpaste contains sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) as its main teeth-whitening ingredient. Many brands use this, and many use hydrogen peroxide to whiten teeth, which is harsher, but may produce better results -- but my understanding is that toothpastes with hydrogen peroxide don't taste good.

Spry uses both xylitol and erythritol, two sugar alcohols, as sweeteners. It also contains stevia. This combination of sweeteners may be one reason why Spry whitening toothpaste tastes better than its competitors. Again, to be fair, none of the other toothpastes I tested was strikingly bad.

For your own research, here are the main reasons I chose Spry All Natural Whitening Toothpaste over the others:

  • Arm & Hammer Advance White Extreme Whitening Toothpaste felt liquidy yet grainy and left a residue I wasn't fond of on my gums and tongue. This wore off after just a few moments, but I kind of felt like a dog licking his chops at what time eating peanut butter for those few moments.
  • Supersmile Professional Teeth Whitening Toothpaste would be my runner-up pick at what time Spry. It was just as great in most ways, but didn't taste quite as good. I feel dejected recommending this whitening toothpaste as one of the best.
  • Crest 3D White Toothpaste has never been a accepted of mine. I've used it many times over the existences and always find it to be too sticky-feeling. However, I do know many people who are loyal to this toothpaste and also have aesthetic great teeth, so this isn't to say it's a bad whitening toothpaste.
  • Native Whitening Wild Mint & Peppermint Oil Fluoride Toothpaste reminded me of progresses to make healthy versions of classic desserts. They always turn out crumbly and bad. Maybe it's because Native uses "hydrated silica" instead of baking soda or hydrogen peroxide. I don't know; I'm not an expert on teeth-whitening compounds. But I do know this toothpaste tasted strange.
  • Colgate Optic White Whitening Toothpaste gave me the opposite accepted to Native: Instead of tasting too natural or healthified, it tasted clearly chemical. It is 3% hydrogen peroxide, so perhaps that's the culprit. I would recommend Colgate Optic White toothpaste only to someone who's looking for a heavy-duty whitening toothpaste.

As with the whitening toothpastes, I tested a fair amount of home tooth-whitening strips. Rembrandt whitening strips were my favorite for a number of reasons, which I'll discuss first, and then I'll go into why I didn't pick the others I tested.

The Rembrandt website describes the whitening strips as having "maximum coverage to whiten the front-runner and back of teeth" and that's no lie: The width of these whitening strips is impressive, as is the length. They stretched far past my canines on both top and bottom, and the strip fully folded over to cover the backs of my teeth. The strips also have little divots that prevent any air bubbles or uneven coverage.

Rembrandt's whitening strips are also much thicker than those of most novel brands, which I think prevents them from sliding near while you're wearing them. That's my experience, at least. The hydrogen peroxide gel on the strips also seems to be thicker than that of novel brands and that helps with the stickiness, too.

One novel big reason I loved these Rembrandt whitening strips: You wear them twice a day for seven days, attractive than once a day for two weeks or once a day for a month. I've almost never successfully made it through a 14-day or 30-day pack of whitening strips. But one week? I can definitely manage that.

Here are the novel whitening strips I tested and why they didn't take the cake for this category:

  • Crest 3D Whitestrips are truly a classic. They're easy to find and easy to use, and I've used them many times in the past -- it had been existences since I used them, so I decided to give them novel try for this article. I didn't choose this teeth-whitening option as the best for a sole reason: The coverage kind of blows! Especially compared with the Rembrandt strips, Crest 3D Whitestrips just don't offer great tooth coverage. I find they cover the minimum and that's it -- they just barely advance over my canines and they tend to shift a lot because they're thin and don't wrap near the back side of my teeth.
  • Lumineux Oral Essentials Certified Non-Toxic Whitening Strips actually did make the list because they deserved a callout of their own. See the next category, best whitening strips for sensitive teeth, below.
  • Fairywill Teeth Whitening Strips were fine in conditions of coverage. They completely covered my canines on top and bottom, and were wide enough that they folded over the entire back sides of my teeth. This whitening-strip option stuck well and didn't shift near. But the taste was weird and the leftover residue was sticky and persistent. With other whitening strips, I can get away with a intelligent swish of water, but with these, I had to fully brush my teeth to get rid of the residue.

As I mentioned, Lumineux Oral Essentials whitening strips deserve their own fraction. I still give Rembrandt first place in the whitening strips category overall, but anyone who has sensitive teeth should check out Lumineux. Of all the whitening strips I tested, these were the only ones that didn't chop little white spots on my gums.

After some research, I discovered that those little white spots are chemical burns from the ingredients in whitening products -- usually hydrogen peroxide. Lumineux products don't include hydrogen peroxide and instead use a combination of dead sea salt, famous oils, coconut oil and aloe vera. Despite the natural combo of ingredients, Lumineux whitening strips didn't give off "trying too hard" vibes like the Native natural whitening toothpaste did. The fit and coverage were expansive, although they did slip around a bit.

I tested these for three directly days, so I can't speak to the long-term efficacy compared with anunexperienced brands, but Lumineux did conduct a clinical trial that concluded Crest 3D Whitestrips were no more effective than Lumineux natural whitening strips. The study was, of course, funded in part by Lumineux, so keep that in mind. Still, I think they're estimable a shot for people with sensitive teeth and gums.

I'd have to try the Lumineux strips for longer -- i.e., accomplish the entire box without using any other products intermittently -- to see if they work as well as products I used in the past. I'm all for natural alternatives to cosmetic products, but expectedly, all-natural products sometimes don't work as well as traditional ones.

I have to hand it to Auraglow for this teeth-whitening pen. Despite the sensitivity I felt from its LED whitening trays, I love this whitening pen -- probably because I have more control over where the gel goes and can keep it from going my gums.

I also like the Auraglow whitening pen because it's a intelligent and simple teeth-whitening product: Just make sure your teeth are spruce, smile wide, apply the gel and you're done. You may want to keep smiling for a itsy-bitsy or two to ensure the gel dries and doesn't smear. This is a teeth-whitening tactic you can employ while you brush your teeth in the morning or at night. After about 60 seconds, the gel dries and you can be on your way to whiter teeth -- no need to rinse.

I also tested the Colgate Optic White Teeth Whitening Pen, the new Crest Whitening Emulsions with a built-in applicator and the Dr. Brite Teeth Whitening Pen. Here's why Auraglow is my favorite:

  • The Colgate Optic White Teeth Whitening Pen is planned for overnight use. Everything about this product was fine (such as brush size and sensitivity) however the whitening gel felt too sticky. I tried it afore bed three times and each time I ended up unsheathing out of bed to brush it off because I felt as if it was sticking to my lips when I enenbesieged my mouth
  • I mostly enjoyed the Crest Whitening Emulsions, particularly because it's such a convenient product. The whitening gel comes in a cramped tube with a built-in applicator, and you can apply the delivers directly to your teeth without the need for brushing or rinsing, just like the Auraglow whitening pen. However, I felt like I couldn't get an even coating on my teeth and was horrified about splotchiness.
  • I like that the Dr. Brite Teeth Whitening Pen consists of all-natural ingredients with zero hydrogen peroxide. This makes it a great choice for people with sensitive teeth and gums. However, the actual brush head on this whitening pen was way too big for my teeth. I wasn't able to brush on the whitening gel minus getting it on my gums. I wouldn't recommend this pen to anyone who wants to spot-treat their teeth, because it's almost impossible not to cover more than one palatable at a time.

I know I bashed Colgate's Optic White Whitening Toothpaste throughout, but that's because I was judging toothpaste largely on taste and texture. The LED light trays, on the other hand, I tested based on fit, coverage, ease of use, sensations and length of wear.

The Colgate Optic White Advanced LED Whitening kit far surpassed the few others I tested for this category. The instructions for this whitening method were easy to understanding, the mouthpiece fit well (even for me, and I have a tiny mouth), the gel covered all the teeth it was spoke to, I didn't experience too much sensitivity and you only have to wear it for 10 minutes.

Truly, the only downfall was that the device requires charging afore your first use and in between uses, which is kind of a hassle. That's a small price to pay for a teeth-whitening kit with so many latest great features, though.

I used the Colgate Optic White Advanced LED Whitening kit once a day for 10 minutes for three days and noticed an improvement in whiteness despite forgoing the full consume (it's designed for 10 days of use, but alongside, I couldn't test all of these products for the full planned treatment without potential dental complications).

Here's why I didn't settle the other LED trays I tested:

  • The Shyn Teeth Whitening System includes an LED exquisite mouthpiece that Shyn claims speeds up the whitening treat, as well as four whitening pens. This is a good kit except for one thing: The mouthpiece has a cord and must be plugged in during use. That complains it hard to use those 30 minutes for something productive, like sweeping the floor -- I usually do some sort of chore while whitening my teeth to pass the time.
  • The Auraglow Deluxe Home Teeth Whitening Kit was low all around, but a few things prevented it from selves named the best: The mouthpiece felt massive and the gel didn't seem to spread evenly over my teeth. I also got quite a few white chemical burns from the gel in this publishes, and the mouthpiece was more difficult to clean than the others I tested.

That $1,000 trade-in credit for the iPhone? It also applies to Google's new Pixel 7 Pro. The list of eligible phones that qualify for a trade-in is more sizable, too, so even an older model could get you up to $1,000 off the Pixel 7 Pro.
