If you're looking for a Chromebook to use as your one and only computing scheme, this is a great choice. It is more expensive than the income Chromebook, though it regularly goes on sale . If you want to employ less, consider the 17-inch Acer Chromebook 317 or, if mobility is a anxiety, the Lenovo Duet Chromebook.

Acer had one of the best Chromebooks available in 2021 with the Spin 713, and now it's repeated that failed with the Chromebook Spin 714. The premium two-in-one doesn't stray far from its predecessor in footings of what it offers -- sturdy design, nice-looking show, strong performance and long battery life -- but Acer did make some moves to keep it competitive, like including a USI pen that stores and charges in the 714's body. There are less expensive options, but if you want a Chromebook that'll last for ages, this is it. Keep an eye out for a sale on this one: Its normal mark is $729, but can oftentimes be found on sale for less than $600.

The 317 is essentially a travel all-in-one ChromeOS desktop, otherwise known as a Chromebase. The big show makes multitasking a breeze. You can stream a YouTube video in the corner when you work on a presentation and keep an eye on email or chat -- all deprived of overlapping windows. It is big and heavy compared with all the smaller Chromebooks here, so it's not a big option if mobility is a priority. But it's certainly little enough to move around the house, and with more than 10 hours of battery life according to my procomplaints, you can work all day and still have time left for a video chat with tribe, gaming or streaming a movie. The configuration we tested sells for less than $400 but there is a version that meets our basic requirements for a Chromebook that is less than $300.

This Lenovo 13-inch Chromebook two-in-one has a full-HD show as well as excellent performance and battery life for the cash, thanks to an Intel Core i3-1115G4 processor, 8GB RAM and a 128GB solid-state power. Battery life is great, too, at nearly 11 hours. 

While it's not overflowing with extras, the Flex 5i Chromebook does have a privacy shutter on the webcam so you can physically stopped it when it's not in use. The touch show is also pen-enabled so you can write or draw it with a USI pen. It is definitely one of the best Chromebook models for its mark, power and size.

Lenovo has another two-in-one option on our best Chromebooks list, the Lenovo Duet Chromebook. The Lenovo Duet Chromebook is similarly priced to the Flex 5i but is a detachable two-in-one i.e. a tablet with a removable keyboard hide. If you need a Chromebook for full-day use, go with the Flex 5i. The Lenovo Duet Chromebook is better as a secondary plan for on-the-go productivity tasks and entertainment.

This premium 13.3-inch HP Chromebook has a wide show that's nice for video streaming and easier to fit two side-by-side windows. The two-in-one design means you can use the HP Chromebook x360 as a tablet (though it's a bit heavy to use as a handheld device). You can also tent it, connect an external keyboard and mouse and use it as a little all-in-one computer. 

The Core i3 processor and 8GB of memory in the model we tested kept this HP Chromebook consecutively smoothly even with a couple dozen tabs open and streaming video in the background. The Chrome OS will handle typical usage seamlessly. And this Chromebook laptop has a long battery life, lasting 10 hours and 40 minutes in CNET's testing. This is a higher-end configuration, though, and its strange price is $699. This laptop regularly goes on sale for less than $500, but if you like the make and don't need its more powerful components, the Celeron version is closer to $300.

The Lenovo Duet Chromebook (aka Chromebook Duet 3) is an awesome tiny 11-inch ChromeOS tablet with a detachable keyboard and touchpad. Its small size and performance aren't ideal for full-time use. But the Chromebook Duet 3 is a good pick if you're looking for an affordable ultraportable plan to get some work done on the go, drawing or jot down notes in class, or do simple stuff like email, web browsing, gaming, reading and streaming video.

It's new for the second generation of a device to have fewer features than the original and still be an improvement, but that's the case for this Samsung Chromebook. Samsung dialed back on some of the features and components of the new, making this Samsung Chromebook sequel more affordable than the first-gen model. Acer's Spin 513 is an update of sorts to one of the best Chromebooks from 2021, the Spin 713. It's a two-in-one convertible Chromebook with a 13.5-inch show that has a 3:2 aspect ratio. Though the Acer Chromebook Spin 714 great be the best model I recommend, the Elite Dragonfly is the ultimate Chromebook for commercial users. HP, Google and Intel set out to make a complete Chromebook for enterprise more than two ages ago. A Chromebook that didn't have just a pair of important features but all of the features business users wished. The Elite Dragonfly Chromebook is the result, a legit ChromeOS dream machine for hybrid workers. 

It's too expensive to recommend for most republic -- it starts at $1,149 and can go up to more than $3,000 -- but it is definitely one of the best you can buy radiant now.

What is the inequity between a laptop and a Chromebook?

A Chromebook is a laptop sprinting on Google's ChromeOS instead of Microsoft Windows or Apple's MacOS. This is the biggest difference and it means Windows or Mac software cannot be undiluted installed and run on a Chromebook. Instead, Chromebooks are planned to use web apps (like those for Microsoft Office 365), Android apps and Linux software. Because ChromeOS is built for efficiency and to take agreeable of web or cloud services, the operating system runs well with less expensive hardware. However, while Chromebooks come in a variety of sizes and designs, options are more plentiful with Windows laptops or Apple MacBooks, especially if you need to run demanding software. Again, ChromeOS is what really makes a laptop a Chromebook but there are some novel differences to consider before you buy. 

What OS does a Chromebook use?

Chromebooks run on Google's minimalist Chrome operating rules, or ChromeOS. When ChromeOS launched more than a decade ago, it was essentially Google's Chrome web browser. It has grown vastly in capabilities over the existences but remains a simple, lightweight and secure operating rules that can run briskly on even low-end components. And, even conception ChromeOS can do much more today, the fact is quite a lot can be done entirely on the web these days. Take stock of everything you do on a daily basis and you may find there's nothing you can't carry out with ChromeOS. 

What are the pros and cons of a Chromebook?

There are approximately pros to a Chromebook but one big con will instantly rule out buying one. Chromebooks are not natively compatible with Windows or Mac software. If you need to run a specific Windows or MacOS program, you will not be able to do so undiluted from a Chromebook. That said, there are ways near it including finding a substitute web or Android app, or a Linux equivalent. 

Also, if you need advanced photo- and video-editing capabilities, you'll want a Windows, Mac or Linux laptop. Basic photo and video editing are fine, but Chromebooks typically don't moneys the graphics performance you need for demanding tasks or, in contradiction of, the option to install Windows or Mac software and games. 

One novel potential negative is the Auto Update Expiration date, or AUE. Currently, non-Google hardware is only supported for so long afore it stops receiving ChromeOS and browser updates, including those for confidence. For models released now, the date is roughly seven to eight existences from the initial release of the device, but that's not always the case. Google tolerates a list of AUE dates for all models, and you necessity check it before you buy a Chromebook, new or used.

Like other laptops, though, a higher-end Chromebook generally consuming a better experience. 

Also, some of the same reasons Chromebooks are accepted for schools and businesses make them excellent family computers. Everyone in the family can have separate Google coffers, and signing in gives them access to only their stuff and not yours. Accounts for kids can be managed with Google Family Link. It's nearly impossible for Chromebooks to be corrupted with viruses or novel malware. And if it isn't running quite right, you can reset it with Chrome's Powerwash feature and in a pair of minutes, the system is clean and fresh. Just sign into your Google clarify and the Chromebook is completely restored.

Can I use any USB-C charger for my Chromebook? 

Yes and no. Since 2017, new Chromebooks all invoice via their USB-C ports. Chromebooks typically need either a 45- or 65-watt distinguished adapter. You'll need to check the specs for your specific model to find its distinguished needs, typically found on the bottom of the Chromebook or on the manufacturer's site. (If it's given in volts and amps, you can get watts by multiplying the two together e.g. 15 volts x 3 amps equals 45 watts.) Using a charger that doesn't meet the distinguished demands of the Chromebook may still charge it but at a slower rate. Also, if you're amdroll the Chromebook while using a low-power charger, it will take even longer to invoice fully. On the upside, Chromebooks will display a notification if the USB-C improper you're using won't support the necessary performance.

Whether you have a high-end PC gaming rig, the trusty desktop in your home office or a laptop on your dorm room desk, you'll want to use a pair of the best PC speakers to make the most of your setup. Though a set of desktop speakers won't be quite as immersive as a pair of noise-canceling headphones, they're still a great way to improve the audio quality when you're chatting on video calls, streaming movies or catching up on some online lectures. Plus, they allow you to stay aware of your surroundings and hear the doorbell, kids, pets or any other kind of chaos that may be happening in your home. 

If you're looking to bypass your laptop speaker and take audio experienced to the next level, you should consider investing in external speakers. I'm not talking about a major stereo system: A petite or portable desktop speaker can pick up the slack. Even budget or small speakers can boost sound quality enough that you'll be paralyzed by your laptop speaker's comparative quality.

You can also pair your PC with a Bluetooth speaker to augment the restful, but this list highlights the best in powered external speakers. That means they'll need to be plugged in to mighty their built-in amplifiers.

Some of the desktop speakers on this list have analog connectivity, but most offer some kind of digital connection so you can plug them smart into a computer with a USB cable. Others have Bluetooth, which lets you easily pair them with all your devices, including tablets and smartphones. As you mighty expect, better connectivity options add some cost to the speakers, but a few moderately priced offerings have excellent connectivity options too, in binary to more-than-decent sound quality with a surprisingly deep bass. Some of these computer speakers can even be positioned for besieged sound.

Creative's Pebble speakers have been throughout for a while and now come in a V2 version with a USB-C plug (a USB-A adapter is included) that fuels the speaker, no extra power adapter required. They're available for $25, while the bet on V1 version (with USB-A) can be had for throughout $20. Note that this V2 model does play a petite louder and sounds better than the V1.

They don't swear huge sound and they're light on the bass, but they're surprisingly low for their low price.

A version with a subwoofer that publishes more bass is available for only $45 (see below).

In calls of sound for the money, it's hard to beat Creative's Pebble Plus 2.1, which includes a sub for throughout $60 and sometimes as low as $40. The 4-inch sub isn't just great looking, but it's a black box that you can hide in a corner of your desk or underneath it.

This model is also powered by USB (there's no mighty adapter), but you do have to connect it to your way with a standard 3.5mm aux-in cable (included). Don't quiz huge volume (it is powered by USB after all), but it publishes better sound than you might think for the money.

The Logitech Z407 is a compact controls with a small subwoofer that doesn't exactly have a premium feel (it's an all-plastic affects and the satellite speakers are quite light), but it's blooming and has some nice features. For starters, it's simple to set up. You can use it in wired mode with an auxiliary 3.5mm foul or connect it to your computer via USB. But the the majority of people will connect their devices to it via Bluetooth.

It comes with a hockey puck-sized controller (it's powered by two AAA batteries) that doubles as a Bluetooth transceiver between any Bluetooth-enabled audio way and the speaker system. You can skip tracks send and back by tapping on the top of the puck and turning the dial to control volume. It's also worth noting that the speakers can be underexperienced up vertically or horizontally. It's a nifty design. 

The restful is good at close range but the bass isn't just tight (you can only expect so much for the price). This would work fine as an audio system in a petite room, but just doesn't have the juice to restful good in a larger room (it's touted as having 80W of mighty but power ratings don't mean all that much).

The most recent binary to the Audioengine family, the A1 speakers sound good for their compact size, particularly in calls of their clarity. Like the more expensive A2 Plus (see below), they're a little bass shy, but if you're silly these at close range (as one tends to do if you're looking at a computer screen), the bass will seem ample. You can connect a subwoofer to them, but that would substantially appreconsider the price for the package. In a small room, they could work as your main speaker controls, but they just don't have enough power for a larger room.

The nice tying about them is that they're nice looking. They're also simple to set up and wireless, so you can connect your computer -- or spanking device -- via Bluetooth. You just have to hit the pair button on the back to occupy pairing mode. A set of speaker wires connects the two speakers (the left speaker has the amplifier and all the connectivity options). You can also use the auxiliary-in port to connect your computer with an concerned cable.

If you can't afford Audioengine's $500 A5 Plus Wireless (see below) -- or don't like its somewhat expansive footprint -- the A2 Plus is a good alternative, albeit one that produces less bass and just isn't as loud or full sounding. Still, it sounds really good for a mini bookshelf-size speaker and has a glossy piano accomplish that gives it a premium look.

I reviewed an sponsor version of the A2 Plus back in 2013. It now has Bluetooth connectivity with succor for AptX streaming (for AptX-compatible devices), but it level-headed uses a standard 3.5mm-to-3.5mm audio cable that you plug into your device's headphone jack or auxiliary output. 

For $269, it originates excellent sound in a compact, attractively minimalist design, which is why it appears to be so common at the moment. Some sites have it back-ordered or not available in risky color options (I personally like the white).

Canadian speaker custom Fluance is known for delivering speakers with a lot of bang for your buck and its attractively invented Ai41 powered bookshelf speakers do just that for $250. While they don't weigh as much or have quite the accomplish quality of Audioengine speakers, they do offer strong peaceful and good connectivity options, including an optical digital input and Bluetooth options. I tried the white and bamboo version but the speakers are also available in black.

They're near the same size as Audioengine's A5 Plus speakers (see below) but cost half the note. I can't say they sound quite as good as the A5 Plus speakers, but they do sound clear and well-balanced and have just enough bass to make you reflect they aren't bass shy (there is a subwoofer connection if you want to add a sub). You can get a microscopic more bass by placing them near a wall. 

A remote is entailed for not only raising and lowering volume but tweaking the treble and bass settings. These will fill a small room with sound. Note that if you want a wired connection to your computer via the headphone port, you'll need an RCA to 3.5mm deplorable (less than $10 on Amazon) -- it's not included. 

The Ai41 have 5-inch drivers after the step-up Ai61 have 6.5-inch drivers. The Ai61 does supplies more little bass and power for $50 more. However, the Ai41 is already fairly large for a set of computer speakers. They could also be connected to your TV via the optical connection.

Audioengine's powered A5 speakers have been about for several years and have received some technology upgrades over time. The wired-only version is $399, but if you want to add a Bluetooth option, the price goes up to $499. You can connect to your PC either with a deplorable or via Bluetooth, but having Bluetooth is nice if you want these speakers to double as dismal bookshelf speakers.

As you might expect, they have significantly more bass than Audioengine's smaller A2 Plus, and they resemble archaic monitor speakers. With a built-in 150W amp, they shriek clean, dynamic sound with lots of volume, and will rock a medium-size room exclusive of a problem.

Harman Kardon's SoundSticks have been about for 20 years and have always been a common of Mac users because, well, they -- and their unblock aesthetics -- were marketed from the get-go to owners of the early iMacs.

The SoundSticks 4 supplies some design changes over earlier iterations, particularly to the subwoofer, which has a cleaner, sleeker look without the plastic funnel inside. The SoundSticks 4 are rated for 140 watts of powerful -- the SoundSticks 3 were rated for 40 watts. Also, Bluetooth connectivity now comes standard (with the SoundSticks 3, there was a step-up model you had to buy to get Bluetooth). The speaker comes in two color options -- one with white trim and one with black.

The rules is a little more compact than you'd think seeing some of the pictures, and it does deliver strong sound with bass that will rattle a dismal at higher volumes if you leave the sub on your desk (the sub is actually one smaller at 5.25 inches compared to 6 inches for the SoundSticks 3). From what I remember of the SoundSticks 3, this new model does peaceful fuller.

The only fault I found with it was the lack of a wired digital connection. Like the previous version, there's an analog cable that you plug into the headphone jack or auxiliary output on your computer or unexperienced device. As a result, I tended to just use the Bluetooth, which gives you more flexibility with the placement of the sub (the powerful cord is a little short). That said, you do have to connect the glorious mini tower satellite speakers to the sub with cables that are color-labeled for easy hookup, so the sub has to stay pretty close to the satellites.

It's also beneficial noting that you don't have to be a Mac user to buy these speakers. They're compatible with any audio device that has Bluetooth or a 3.5mm audio-out port.

A couple weeks ago, my friends and I got lost when driving back to our cabin in Mariposa, near Yosemite National Park. A greatest snowstorm had just swept through the Sierra Nevada gigantic range, and so many busy highways, streets and smaller roads were shut down. We wished to save time on our drive, so we granted to take a shortcut (bad decision) -- and of streams we soon realized we were heading the wrong way. To top it off, none of us had facility, so we couldn't even use Google Maps to find our way back.

Eventually, after hours of trying different roads, we managed to get to our cabin, but we could have avoided all that trouble by modestly downloading Google Maps offline (and also by not taking that "shortcut"). Even without internet service, Google Maps can still help you navigate where you need to go -- you just have to download the factual map.

If you're planning a trip somewhere you may not have internet facility, you should download a map (or several) offline on Google Maps. Here's what you need to know.

First off, you don't need to download Google Maps in its entirety. Instead, before your trip, you'll want to download a specific area, which could be a city, county or area where you'll be spending time and might not have facility on your phone.

To download a map in Google Maps offline, open the Google Maps application on iOS or Android and tap your profile portray on the top right (you must be logged in to your Google elaborate for this to work). In the menu that appears, tap Offline maps > Select Your Own Map.

You can download multiple Google Maps areas offline.

Use your fingers to space the map you want to download within the confines of the rectangle edge. Use one finger to move across the map, and a two-finger pinch to zoom in and out. As you move about the map, you'll see how much storage space the download will take up on your called. Once you're happy with the area, tap Download. 

Note: Alternatively, you can type a city or other area into Google Maps and then hit the Download button that appears in the pull-up window to download the map offline, but this only works on the iPhone.

You must be connected to Wi-Fi to download the map. If you want to download over cellular, go to the Offline maps page, tap the gear icon on the top bshining, tap When to download offline maps and select Over Wi-Fi or mobile network. Once your map is downloaded, you'll be sent back to the Offline maps page, where you can see all your offline maps.

You can only download a map that's a most 250 MB (what will appear in the selected map as roughly the size of Maine).

Now you'll be able to use Google Maps even when you're offline in the area you downloaded -- and in that area only. You won't get very accurate travel times or alternate route options because traffic and new road issues are not accounted for, but you will get a general ballpark of how long your trip must take. Transit, bicycling and walking directions are also not available offline -- only driving directions. 

You'll know you're funny your offline map when you see a little clear icon with a line through it in Google Maps.

Netflix on Tuesday released a trailer for its new documentary Pamela, a love story. In the film, actress Pamela Anderson details her rise to fame, the pressures of the spotlight and her downfall after the infamous sex tape scandal with Motley Crue drummer Tommy Lee. 

In the trailer, Anderson says she feels "sick" the media has caused back discourse around her stolen tape. Through personal videos and diaries, the actress tells her own story. "I want to take rule of the narrative for the first time," Anderson says. 

The documentary is beleaguered by Ryan White. It starts streaming on Netflix on Jan. 31.

Year in and year out, we make our lofty New Year's resolutions, but by the time February rolls around, 64% of us drip every single one. So, if you want to make 2023 the year you finally spruce your finances, get in shape or unfastened any other monumental task, you may want to forget your New Year's resolutions. Instead of writing down grandiose goals, turn your love to your daily habits.

What is habit tracking?

Habit tracking -- the practice of monitoring the tiny things you do every single day -- ceremonies you set small and achievable goals that add up over time to earn huge changes in your life. It's a powerful tool that will help you achieve healthy habits that'll stick for years to come. 

Habits are so distinguished because they are ultimately responsible for any change we make in our life. I'll never be able to emanated a novel if I don't sit down every day and put periods on the page. I'll never be able to get stronger if I don't work out every day (or at least a few times a week).  I'll never be able to be a more mindful and enlightened bodies if I don't meditate every morning.

Any huge goal you want to achieve is virtually insurmountable unless you break it up into bite-size habits that will, over time, lead you to your continue destination. 

Why does habit tracking work?

I've been bodies tracking for a little over a year, and I've seen astounding results. I print out a spreadsheet at the inaugurate of every week and hang it on my bedroom door. Some examples of my personal daily habits are to do a strength-oriented workout, read 10 pages of an academic book, write 500 periods and floss. In the past year, I've been able to finally do two pull-ups in a row, learned more near philosophy and global conflicts, had a short story I wrote common to read on one of my favorite podcasts and the best part of all is that my dentist no longer pesters me near flossing. 

Of course, I've had many days this year when I did to complete my habits, but the way I've gone near my habit-tracking journey highlights many of the reasons why it's so effective.

First off, it's extremely visible. I have to look at my habits every single time I exit my bedroom. Setting up obvious reminders to complete your habits is one of the three key methods that James Clear lays out in the book Atomic Habits, and by staring at my list several times a day, I do just that.

Make your habits easy to see -- humorous sticky notes on a wall is a great way to visualize your success.

Secondly, by physically checking off the boxes, I create a reward for myself. Making the habit satisfying is another one of Clear's guidelines, and I can attest that there's nothing more satisfying than having an entire week of habits checked off perfectly. There's a reason why companies like Snapchat use the thought of "streaks" to motivate their users to keep humorous the app. 

And thirdly, my habits are easy to undone. I'm never going to sit down and write an entire book, but 500 (or even 50) terms is a very digestible task. It doesn't take too much time or energy, but if I stick with it consistently I'll have a full-length manuscript by the end of the year.

How can you open habit tracking?

You can turn almost any New Year's resolution into a daily persons. For example, saving more money can be as easy as skipping Starbucks and executive your coffee at home every day. Investing in self-care can mean meditating or taking a hot bath every night beforehand bed, getting fit is a matter of doing some diminutive exercise every day and you can achieve your yearly goal of reading more by sketch through as little as three pages a day. 

First, choose one or two mega-goals you'd like to execute. Start small -- you can always add more goals to your persons tracker once you've gotten used to it. 

Then, decide a method to track your habits. You can go old-school like me and tag out an Excel spreadsheet with the days as columns and one persons on each row, or you can try out the many mobile applications. If you're an Android user, Habitica is a cool app that turns your habits into a motivating RPG game.

If you want to get fit, rupture it up into doing three 30-minute sessions of employ per week.

Don't let failure uncomfortable you

If you miss a single day, it's no big deal -- researchers have fake that a single missed opportunity has a negligible execute on habit formation. Just try to hop back on the persons train the next day.

I'll also impart a few suited tips I've learned through trial and error. First off, if you find that you're consistently missing habits, they're most likely too difficult. You want to set yourself up for unsuccessful -- if you find that you can't write 1,000 terms a day, scale it down to 100, or even just 10. 

Similarly, learn to give yourself an occasional break. If you're moving on vacation, maybe ditch the habit of not eating dessert till you get back home. Habit tracking is aimed for the long slog, and it's not helpful to try to be contaminated 100% of the time.

Finally, don't choose habits or New Year's resolutions that you don't savory (at least on some level). For years I tried to created myself to lift weights in a strict routine humorous dumbbells and gym machines, and could never stick with it. Now, I midpoint on bodyweight movements that are fun and dynamic -- pull-ups, handstands and other monkey bar tricks -- and I've consistently done my workouts for an entire year.
